Mission Statement

The Yale Baroque Opera Project (YBOP), now in its fifth year, introduces Yale students to historical, aesthetic, and performance issues related to Italian opera from the 17th and early 18th centuries. In addition to a full-scale annual production, the project supports courses in the Department of Music geared specifically toward the study of this seminal operatic repertoire: Continuo Realization and Performance, Rhetoric and Early Instrumental Playing, and Analyzing, Directing and Performing Early Opera.

YBOP is part of a larger project to promote the study and performance of Baroque opera, both at Yale and beyond.  Affiliated with the Department of Music of Yale University and the Whitney Humanities Center, YBOP and its associated activities are supported by funding provided by a Distinguished Achievement Award granted to Ellen Rosand, George A. Saden Professor of Music, by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
